TOUR DESCRIPTION
A taste of the iconic Bungle Bungle beehive shaped rock formations.
The day begins with a scenic flight with Aviair departing Kununurra, providing unparallelled views of the Ord Irrigation Scheme, Lake Argyle, Ord & Bow Rivers and the Bungle Bungle Range.
This walk is perfect for those who are unable to walk long distances or would simply prefer not to. Departing from Bellburn Airstrip, you will meet your guide and travel in air-conditioned comfort for approximately 30-40 minutes onboard a 4WD vehicle to the new and interactive Purnululu Visitors Centre, which offers the chance to purchase a souvenir and enjoy their gardens and informative displays on the natural wonders of the UNESCO World Heritage listed national park.
From the Visitors Centre you will re-board the bus, and visit the 600m flora trail, highlighting some of the unique botany in the park, then make a pit-stop at the gorgeous Kungkalanayi lookout. This involves a small 80m walk uphill where you’ll be rewarded with 360-degree views of the region, including the western escarpment of the Bungle Bungle Range. After visiting the northern end of Purnululu you will travel to Piccaninny Creek Carpark to enjoy a shaded and leisurely lunch looking out at the magnificent black and orange banded domes.
Once refreshed and refuelled, your guide will lead you on to an easy 1km walk along the sandy creek bed amongst the striking beehive-shaped domes providing insight on the flora, fauna and Indigenous heritage of the park, while also explaining the history of how these famous eroded towers, banded with the colours of orange and black have developed over thousands of years.
After this walk, you will be driven to Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge, where you will stay the night. Spend your night in a private ensuite cabin and enjoy a delicious chef prepared buffet style dinner and breakfast. Enjoy a swim in the only pool in the national park or a sunset drink at the Lodge's dedicated 'Sunset Spot'.
The next morning after breakfast, you will return to Bellburn Airstrip for your return flight to Kununurra (either at 7:20am or 10:20am departure). On this flight, you will soar over the intriguing Argyle Diamond Mine, where rare pink diamonds were once mined, before touching back down in Kununurra.
