ODYSSEY 14 DAY ULTIMATE KIMBERLEY SAFARI ITINERARY

Odyssey Expeditions 14 Day and 13 Night Kimberley Ultimate Itinerary - Broome to Wyndham

DAY 1 - DEPART BROOME PORT

9:00 am you will be picked up from your Broome accommodation and transferred to MV Odyssey.  Be welcomed with fellow guests and meet your Skipper and crew. While enjoying a cold drink and a light brunch we cruise northward watching the endless stretch of Cable Beach pass by. Cruising  into the night passing Cape Leveque and across King Sound.

DAY 2 - BUCCANEER ARCHIPELAGO - HORIZONTAL FALLS

Awake to a Kimberley sunrise as we travel through the Buccaneer Archipelago, consisting of more than 800 islands.

Over to Crocodile Creek where it's time to swim in a freshwater hole at the top of the waterfall. Cruise to Talbot Bay and experience the iconic Horizontal Falls with an exhilarating boat ride through the Horizontal Falls, then explore the spectacular geology and scenery of Cyclone Creek.

Enjoy an overnight stay in Talbot Bay.

DAY 3 - RED CONE CREEK - RUBY FALLS - MONTGOMERY REEF

At Montgomery Reef we take a cruise in Homer for a closer look at the marine life turtles, dugong, crocodiles and bird life. Water cascades from the reef on a falling tide exposing a privileged glimpse of another world!

Journey to Doubtful Bay, passing  the scenic Raft Point and Steep Island arriving into Red Cone Creek.

We board “Homer” for a leisurely cruise and a refreshing swim at the beautiful Ruby Falls.

DAY 4 - DOUBTFUL BAY

Today we cruise through Camden Sound to Brecknock Harbour & Kuri Bay, the location of Paspaley Pearls remote base in the Kimberley. Over to Camden Harbour and go ashore at Sheep Island to visit the last resting place of Mary Jane Pascoe. Hear the story of the ill-fated settlement of the Camden Harbour Pastoral Association. Cruise past Augustus Island to Hanover Bay for a beach walk and a bonfire before dinner.

DAY 5 - MONTGOMERY REEF to LANGII

The incoming tide  will carry us deep into the Prince Regent River, prepare to get wet on the bow of Odyssey as we nose into the spectacular Kings Cascade. Hike to the top of the falls for a swim in the large freshwater swimming hole. After lunch, we board Homer to view the thundering Cathedral Falls and have a refreshing dunk on the bow of Homer. Fishing in the afternoon and overnight in the Prince Regent River.

DAY 6 - CAMDEN HARBOUR to PRINCE REGENT RIVER

Still within the Prince Regent River gives you an opportunity for a early morning fish before visiting the freshwater swimming holes at Camp Creek. After spending time cooling off, it’s back to Odyssey to take the outgoing tide of the Prince Regent. Watch the sunset over St George Basin while enjoying your catch for dinner prepared by your chef.

DAY 7 - KINGS CASCADE

Early morning steam to Careening Bay, where we will go ashore to the Mermaid Boab tree made famous by Philip Parker King in 1820. Leaving Careening Bay, we head to north to Bigge Island. After lunch, go ashore to explore ancient Wandjina art sites. Later on we head to Prudhoe Island and try our luck at fishing.

DAY 8 - HUNTER RIVER

Mid-morning we board Homer to explore Mudge and Swift Bay, there we observe Wandjina and Bradshaw art sites unique to the Kimberley region.

Bradshaw art also know as Gwion Gwion was recorded by Joseph Bradshaw in 1891 and is thought to be at least 17,000, perhaps more than 25,000 years old.

Later on, we depart for the Mitchell River for over night anchorage.

DAY 9 - BIGGE ISLAND

After breakfast, hop in the tenders and try our luck at fishing and mud crabbing. After lunch, time to enjoy a freshwater swim in Surveyors Pool. While steaming to Vansittart Bay, drink champagne and indulge fresh mud crabs on the bow of Odyssey as we watch a warm Kimberley sunset.

DAY 10 - MITCHELL RIVER

Early rise this morning to visit a Bradshaw Art site then a short journey on Homer to the eastern side of Vansittart Bay. Here we go ashore to view the wreckage of the DC3 that crash landed during World War II. Keep your eye out for the diamonds that were supposedly on the plane! Later on enjoy a refreshing swim and anchor overnight at Fresh Water Bay.

DAY 11 - VANSITTART BAY

After visiting Glycosmis Falls we depart for Koolama Bay and the King George River. Mid-morning we take a beach walk at Tranquil Bay with a spectacular waterfall at the head of the beach. Then visit Pangali Cove where the passengers and crew camped after the Japanese bombing of the MV Koolama in 1942. In the afternoon we journey through the picturesque river to the powerful King George Falls.

DAY 12 - KING GEORGE RIVER

It’s an early hike to the top of King George Falls, at over 80 meters the view from the top of these falls is spectacular to say the least! While taking in the view enjoy a refreshing swim at the top of the falls. Board Homer to discover more swimming holes, bird life and colony of bats in this remarkable area. Departing the King George River to explore the Berkeley River.

DAY 13 - BERKLEY RIVER

At high water, we cross the sand bar and head upstream of what is a spectacular gorged river with many waterfalls. After Lunch, enjoy a refreshing swim and an opportunity for a spot fishing before departing the Berkeley River and head towards Cambridge Gulf. It's a nonstop journey as we make our way south east towards the Port of Wyndham.

DAY 14 - DISEMBARK WYNDHAM PORT

This day has come all too quickly. Awake as we cruise towards the the Port of Wyndham. After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to fellow guests and crew members. A courtesy bus will take you to the Five Rivers lookout on the top of the Bastion Range to view the Cambridge Gulf, then a one hour informative ride to Kununurra.
