KIMBERLEY PEARL FAQs
Pre- & post-cruise travel assistance
BlueSun Travel works with every hotel in the Kimberley, including Broome, Darwin and Kununurra. We have wholesale arrangements with many properties and we are a TAAP agent for Expedia. This means we have the best and least restrictive booking conditions, including cancellation policies.
Please note, hotel accommodation is hard to secure. Do not leave this until the last minute.
Call 1300 799 758 for further advice.
Since COVID-19, the airline world has changed a lot. However, there are good flight options from all major cities in Australia.
We largely advise our clients to check with Webjet for the best and most convenient times and dates to fly. This will give you all Qantas, Virgin and Jetstar options.
As a final piece of advice, do not try to cut your flight times too close to your cruise times. If there is an aircraft delay, we cannot parachute you on and off the vessel!
All transfers from the airport, to your hotel accommodation, is your responsibility.
Broome does not have Uber, so you are best advised to arrange a taxi or bus transfer before you arrive. Some hotels do arrange bus transfers at an extra cost and bookings are required in advance.
Broome Private Taxis - 0412 768 468
Chinatown Taxis - 08 9192 3316
Mike Windle Luxury Taxis - 0419 966 783
Flights to Kununurra (KNX) are provided by Air North. There is normally one flight per day.
- Broome (BME) to Kununurra (KNX) takes 1 hour and 25 minutes.
- Darwin (BME) to Kununurra (KNX) takes about 1 hour and 2 minutes.
It is advisable that you stay 1 night in Kununurra (either before or after your cruise) because of the flight schedules. We will provide the transfer for free between Wyndham and Kununurra, or the reverse.
Deposit & final payment requirements
A deposit of 25% is required within 7 days of making your booking. Final payment is due 90 days prior to departure.
Per the vessel's terms and conditions, all payments are non-refundable. For more information, please call our office on 1300 799 758.
If your cruise is affected by interstate border restrictions due to COVID, your monies will be put into credit and applied to a future cruise date.
General cruise questions
Times may differ slightly depending on tides, however all flight or coach transfer departures to meet the vessel from Broome or Kununurra will be morning departures for an early afternoon embarkation. Disembarkation for guests will be in the morning, with arrival back in Broome or Kununurra by early afternoon. With this in mind, Kimberley Pearl Charters recommend guests arrange pre and post cruise accommodation to allow for delays and ensure no flights or charter is missed.
Kimberley Pearl Charters has three custom-built tenders, specifically for Kimberley cruising and fishing. Each one is 5 metres long, with a 70 horse power engine.
Their tenders are licensed to carry six passengers at a time, so there is a huge amount of flexibility to see and do things no your cruise.
Whilst the crystal blue waters may look tempting, we are in croc country, so diving and snorkelling is only offered on our Perth Charters, Albrohlos Islands and Rowley Shore Cruises.
There will be many opportunities to explore the coastline and swim in a number of fresh water holes along the way.
A washing machine and dryer are located downstairs. A laundry bag will be provided in each cabin should you wish to wash your clothing. Please ask one of your crew members and they would be happy to assist.
Yes, Kimberley Pearl have three hair dryers for guests to use on board.
What to wear and bring
Due to the climate and nature of cruising activities, clothing is generally light weight, loose fitting, sun smart and made of natural fibre. No need for those heels – evening wear tends to be smart casual.
Sturdy comfortable shoes (not boots) are required for land activities and we encourage guests to enjoy the freedom of being barefoot whilst on board the vessel.
Please provide your own toiletries. Bath and swimming towels will be provided. Sunscreen and insect repellents are provided on board, however if you have a particular brand preference, we suggest you include them in your luggage.
You can charge any of your appliances on board the vessel. You do not need an adaptor if you are an Australian traveller as it has a 240v set up.
Food and drink
The Kimberley Pearl allows you to bring your own (BYO) alcoholic drinks on the cruise. It does not operate an onboard bar service.
The vessel will liaise with a local bottle shop to ensure your drinks order is made and placed on the vessel. Payment will be made directly to the bottle shop and will need to be completed 14 days prior to departure.
All water on board is desalinated and safe to drink.
In line with our responsible and sustainable tourism practices, all guests are provided with a water bottle upon boarding the vessel which can be re-filled from the main water tap located in the kitchen. We produce our own water on board the Kimberley Pearl, but as this is one of our most precious commodities, we ask all guests to be mindful of their water use.
Weight restrictions
Yes, there are weight restrictions!
As the cruise will include a scenic transfer, space and weight is limited. Guests are asked to travel with one piece of soft hand luggage, no hard cases, and a maximum of 10kg per person.
Should you anticipate your luggage to exceed this, please speak to our office about arranging storage for excess luggage during this time. Should you have any questions with regards to luggage restrictions please do not hesitate to contact our office.
Travel Insurance
Kimberley cruises are adventure cruises in remote parts of the Northwest of Australia. All passengers are required to take out comprehensive travel insurance prior to their journey. We particularly encourage you to be covered for 'cancellation' and 'medical evacuation' just in case.
If you have further questions, call our office on 1300 799 758.
Kimberley Pearl requests that travellers are in general good health to participate in our cruises. Please detail any medical or physical conditions on your 'Booking Form' provided and ensure you bring enough medication (if required regularly) for cruise duration and/or paracetamol or travel sickness medication.
The Kimberley Pearl carries an extensive medical kit on-board for your well-being, and will also carry general first aid kits in all tenders and on all walks.
Please note: clients must bear the cost of any emergency medical or rescue services summoned at the discretion of the Master of the vessel in relation to any illness or injury.
Please ensure that you take out travel insurance adequate to the eventuality prior to boarding.
Communications
The Kimberley Pearl has a satellite phone which guests are permitted to use at an additional cost. The phone number can be provided to guests in case of an emergency.
There is no internet access onboard the vessel. Unfortunately, communications in the Kimberley are poor. However, there is a satellite phone on board that can be used, for an additional cost.
Extra costs
There is a one-off Native Title Access fee for the areas in which we will be cruising. A confirmed cost will be advised to you, prior to final payment. It will be detailed on your invoice separately as Uunguu Visitor Pass for billing purposes. (Current cost for this is $105.00 per person, however this price is subject to increase).
